You're never locked into a tier. Upgrades, downgrades, and billing-cycle switches all happen from Settings → Billing, and the rules are built around one promise: you always keep what you paid for, and switching never resets your data, your projects, or your Astrono memory.
Here's exactly when each kind of change takes effect, and what happens when a payment doesn't go through.
Upgrades: immediate and prorated
Upgrade anytime and the change takes effect immediately, prorated to the day. The new storage, AI minutes, seats, and social sets are available right away, and you only pay the difference for the remainder of your billing period.
Downgrades: at period end
Downgrades take effect at your next billing date, not immediately. You keep the full capacity of the plan you paid for until the period ends, then the smaller plan begins. Nothing about your content changes — plan changes never reset data, projects, or Astrono memory.
Switching yearly to monthly
Moving from annual to monthly billing always waits for your renewal date. A prepaid year is never collapsed mid-term: you keep the annual price and capacity you already bought, and the monthly plan starts when the year is up.
If a payment fails
A failed payment doesn't blow up your workspace, but it does pause the expensive part:
- AI minutes stop immediately — indexing and agent runs pause until billing is fixed.
- Your files and your seats survive the recovery window. Nothing is deleted and nobody is removed while you sort out the card.
Downgrading with overages
If you're downgrading to a plan smaller than what you currently use — more storage, seats, or social sets than the new tier includes — Soontra warns you ahead of time. You get overage reminders at 7, 3, and 1 days before the downgrade lands, so you can trim usage or change your mind.
For social sets specifically: extra connected sets beyond the new plan's limit get locked, never deleted. Reconnecting is a plan change away — see Connect social accounts.
Storage full
If you hit your storage cap, uploads are blocked with a clear error — nothing silently fails and nothing is removed to make room. Free up space, buy extra storage at $20/TB/month, or upgrade to the next tier. Plan details and add-on pricing are in Plans, pricing, and add-ons.
