Connect Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, or ChatGPT (OAuth)

Set up Soontra in the chat clients that connect with a sign-in instead of an API key, from pasting the MCP server URL to running your first test prompt.

Claude.ai, Claude Desktop, and ChatGPT all connect to Soontra the same basic way: you add Soontra as a custom connector or app using your workspace's MCP server URL, then approve the connection by signing in to Soontra. No API key is needed — the client registers itself automatically.

You'll find the MCP server URL at the top of Settings → Connections, with a copy button next to it.

Before you start: who can connect

Only workspace owners and admins can authorize an AI client. Each person has one active OAuth grant at a time — approving a new consent replaces the old one, so connecting a second client (or the same client again) supersedes the earlier grant.

Connect Claude.ai

Claude.ai requires a Claude Pro/Max or Team/Enterprise plan, and the connector must be reachable over public HTTPS.

  1. Team/Enterprise: an Owner adds it from Organization settings → Connectors → Add → Custom → Web. Pro/Max: open Customize → Connectors, click the "+", then Add custom connector.
  2. Paste the MCP server URL from Settings → Connections as the Remote MCP server URL, then click Add. Claude registers automatically when the connector is added.
  3. If Claude asks for advanced settings, paste the OAuth Client ID shown in Settings → Connections and leave the secret blank.
  4. Click Connect and sign in to Soontra to authorize this workspace.
  5. In a chat, open the "+" menu, choose Connectors, and enable Soontra for that conversation.

Connect Claude Desktop

  1. Open Customize → Connectors in your Claude account and add a custom connector.
  2. Paste the MCP server URL as the Remote MCP server URL, then click Add.
  3. Click Connect and sign in to Soontra to authorize the workspace.
  4. Enable Soontra from the "+" menu, then Connectors, in each conversation that should use it.

Remote connectors are brokered through Claude, so the MCP URL must be reachable from the public internet.

Connect ChatGPT

  1. Use ChatGPT web. For full MCP read/write tools, use a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace with developer mode enabled by an admin or owner.
  2. Open Workspace settings or user Settings → Apps, then Create a custom app.
  3. Enter the MCP server URL as the endpoint, choose OAuth for authentication, then click Scan Tools.
  4. Complete the Soontra sign-in prompt if asked, wait for the tool scan to finish, then click Create.
  5. Open a new chat and select the app from the tools or apps menu before testing.

Pro accounts can use custom MCP in developer mode for read/fetch access, but full MCP write actions require Business, Enterprise, or Edu.

Test your connection

Each client has a natural first prompt:

  • Claude.ai: List my Soontra projects.
  • Claude Desktop: Show the projects in my Soontra workspace.
  • ChatGPT: List my Soontra projects, then summarize what tools you can use.

If the client replies with your real project list, you're connected.

Disconnect or reconnect

To switch workspaces, run the connect flow again and sign in to the workspace you want — the new consent replaces the old grant. To disconnect entirely, remove the connector or app in the client. And if you lose your owner or admin role in the workspace, your grant is revoked automatically.
